Invenergy Announces Start of Commercial Operations of Gratiot County Wind Project in Michigan
CHICAGO, Illinois (June 6, 2012) – Invenergy Wind LLC (“Invenergy”) today announced the completion of construction and start of full commercial operations for its Gratiot County Wind project in Central Michigan.
This 110.4 MW project, consisting of sixty-nine 1.6-megawatt GE Energy wind turbines, sells all of its power and renewable energy attributes to DTE Energy under a 20-year power purchase agreement. Invenergy also completed construction on an adjacent 64- turbine, 102.4 MW project that was transferred to DTE Energy upon completion. Combined, the two projects produce enough renewable energy to power approximately 50,000 homes, helping the utility meet Michigan’s renewable energy goals.
“Invenergy is delighted that the Gratiot County Wind project is generating clean, homegrown energy in Michigan,” said Michael Polsky, president and chief executive officer of Chicago-based Invenergy. “We appreciate the strong support for this project and look forward to a long and successful relationship with our host community.”
Located near the town of Breckenridge on private land in the townships of Wheeler, Bethany, Emerson and Lafayette, the wind project:
Employs eight full-time workers to operate and maintain the facility.
Contributes to the area’s economic development through property tax payments, which can be used for schools, fire and police protection, road repair and other improvements.
Supports the local economy through yearly lease payments to landowners.
Was constructed by Livonia, Mich.-based Aristeo Construction.
