Mexico City, MEXICO (Nov. 30, 2017) – Invenergy today announced the award of a contract for 500 megawatts of capacity in CENACE’s (Mexico’s power system operator) third long-term auction for its proposed natural gas peaking power plant, the Los Ramones Energy Center. The project was developed in association with Capital Energético Mexicano, S.A.P.I. de C.V. and Holding Los Ramones, S.A.P.I. de C.V.

The Los Ramones Energy Center is located in the municipality of Ramones, Nuevo Leon, approximately 50 miles east from the city of Monterrey. The simple-cycle facility will have the capacity to generate up to 555 megawatts of power from two state-of-the-art GE H-Class gas turbines. Once in operation, the facility will become the most efficient gas-fired peaker plant in Mexico. Commercial operation is expected to commence in the second quarter of 2020.

The awarded contract will be signed in Q1 of 2018, and it will be for a 15-year term of 499.95 megawatts of capacity from the plant.

“This project represents a major milestone for Invenergy’s presence in Mexico and throughout Latin America,” said Paul Abitante, Invenergy’s Vice President of International Development. “Invenergy is proud to partner with Mexico as it goes through a period of energy transformation.”

Invenergy has had a presence in Mexico since early 2014, and recently opened the doors of its new regional headquarters in Mexico City, providing locally-based leadership of its activities across the region. Invenergy’s team of more than 20 professionals in Mexico City is highly experienced, having collectively developed and executed more than 15,000 megawatts of power projects. They are leveraging that experience on an active project pipeline of more than 5,000 megawatts in Mexico.

Within the last two years, Invenergy has expanded elsewhere in Latin America with the acquisition of the Campo Palomas Wind Farm (70 megawatts) and La Jacinta Solar Farm (64 megawatts), both in Uruguay. In addition to delivering clean power, these projects are providing jobs and economic development benefits to the local area and together with the Los Ramones project represent Invenergy’s commitment to the entire region.
